Profile

Mary McEwen is the Southeast Alaska Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Director. She has over 20 years of professional experience with health and social services programs in non-profit and governmental settings. Born and raised in Alaska, she believes in the AHEC mission of promoting health equity by supporting the healthcare workforce among rural and traditionally underserved populations. Mary holds a BA in Sociology and a MPH in Health Policy. Her graduate research focused on how healthcare-related jobs and education impact human movement between rural and urban areas on both national and global levels, an interest developed during her time as a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa. Mary is a certified instructor for Basic Life Support and Mental Health First Aid and holds a Certified Health Education Specialist credential.
