Alaska Comprehensive Center

acc logoFrom 2005 to 2013, the Alaska Comprehensive Center (ACC) helped the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development (EED) assist districts and schools and provide technical assistance aimed at increasing student achievement.

ACC was funded by a federal grant and operated in partnership with the Education Northwest, 16 Regional Comprehensive Centers and five Content Centers. While ACC’s funding ended Sept. 30th, 2012, ACC’s website continues to serve as a resource for Alaskan educators.

During ACC’s duration, activities included:

  • Collaborating with and supporting EED in providing two Curriculum Alignment Institutes.  These institutes focused on how to implement curriculum review cycles and ensuring the cognitive rigor of enacted curriculum.
  • Assisting EED in the awareness and roll-out of the Alaska State Literacy Blueprint—Birth to Graduation by creating a DVD that included areas of instruction and intervention, a comprehensive assessment system, family and community connections, leadership, and professional development.
  • Providing support for EED’s Summer Literacy Institute.
  • Facilitating a partnership between EED and Alaska Native Educators to produce Alaska’s Culturally Responsive Standards for Educators.
  • Providing technical assistance to EED in the review and revisions of state regulations for teacher and principal evaluation with the Alaska Teacher Quality Working Group.
  • Providing technical assistance and support to EED for the Title I School Improvement Grants around teacher/principal evaluation systems and the convening of SIG staff for additional professional development related to the requirements of the grant.
