Staff Profile for Milenka Curich - Family Education Instructor

Milenka works as a Family Education and Computer Instructor at The Learning Connection at Cedar Park and Geneva Woods. She is a 2007 graduate of the Elementary Education MAT (Master of Arts in Teaching) program of the University of Alaska Southeast. Before embarking on a professional teaching degree, Milenka spent several years working as a teacher aide in middle school and high school classrooms in Ketchikan. She interspersed her classroom experience with international work experiences in the Peace Corps and JET Programme. In the Peace Corps, Milenka put her French language skills to use in the West African nation of Cote d'Ivoire where she worked as a Health Education volunteer in the village of N'Goloblasso. The JET Programme sent her to the quaint Japanese fishing village of Kitakami in northern Honshu. There she worked in public elementary and junior high classrooms teaching English language and culture. Although Milenka is very content to be back living, working, and playing in the soggy forests of Southeast Alaska, she will always be haunted by the memory of an African sky and the mystic of tea ceremony.
