Staff Profile for Judy Robertson - Special Education Program Manager
Judy Robertson is the Special Education Program Administrator for SERRC. Judy has been in the field of education for 36 years. She has her doctorate in educational leadership and her masters and undergraduate work were in the fields of elementary and special education.
Judy retired from the West Virginia Department of Education at the end of June, where her main responsibilities were monitoring special education programs throughout the state and assisting districts with implementing positive systemic change for the improvement of services for students with disabilities. She has participated at the state level in school improvement efforts to assist districts meet the required standards for performance. Her work there also involved working on the SPP/APR in the specific areas of graduation, dropout, disproportionality and general supervision. On the national level, Judy has participated on an OSEP monitoring team and presented at national conferences on monitoring of special education programs and disproportionality.
Judy has 20 years teaching experience in West Virginia and New Jersey, teaching both regular and special education. As Elementary and Special Education Director for a district in West Virginia, she has been involved in the implementation of IDEA and understands the difficulties of balancing the needs of all students and the system.
Judy worked for SERRC in 1993, as the special education coordinator. Currently, she manages the staff of itinerant related service providers who travel throughout the state providing essential services to students in Alaska. Judy also provides pre compliance audits, staff training on IDEA, IEP development and other issues related to special education.
