Jr. Alaska Close Up
Jr. Alaska Close Up. . .for a first impression of our state government!
Meet and network with other students and teachers from around our state as you learn about the three branches of state government and how they work together to govern our state. Visit various government sites and your legislators. We’ve been bringing students and teachers to Juneau for over 20 years, and Alaska Close Up has served over 3,000 students. Our activities are aligned with Alaska Content Standards.
You are eligible to attend Junior Alaska Close Up if you are a 7th – 8th grader, have a basic understanding of state government, and are able to work with other students and adults. Your district should send one teacher/chaperone for every four students.
Your district will begin the enrollment process with an intent form. Teachers who are attending should use the "Just for Teachers" link to prepare themselves and their students for the session. Make sure parenents read the "Just for Parents" page. Use the “Just for Students” link to learn additional details and access the advance assignments. Jr. Alaska Close-up students complete assignments 1, 5, and 11.
