Government Internship
Here’s your chance to experience working with the Legislative, Executive, or Judicial branches of our state government. During your week-long session we will also complete some Alaska Close Up activities, explore higher education options, career exploration and learn job-seeking skills. Objectives and activities are aligned with Alaska Content Standards. Check the Sample Schedule, attached below, for additional details.
You are eligible to become a Government Intern if you are an Alaska Close Up alumni, 11th – 12th grader, are at least 16 years of age, and have the honesty, integrity, dependability and maturity to adjust to the adult atmosphere of the workplace.
Your session is held in conjunction with your district’s attendance at Alaska Close Up. Your district will begin the enrollment process with an intent form. Goverment Internship students complete assignments 1-6, 8, and 10-13 if they were not completed for Alaska Close Up. Teachers/chaperones for Alaska Close Up will also work with Government Interns. Teachers should use the Government Internship Countdown page to help students prepare. Make sure parents read the "Just for Parents" page. Use the “Just for Students” link to learn additional details and access the advance assignments. Government Internship students complete assignments 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, and 15.
