
A driver's license is a requirement for many of Alaska's high growth industry careers and apprenticeships, as well as ensuring that license holders have the required training to safely travel the road system. In rural Southeast Alaska, it is challenging to obtain a license.
With 89% of Southeast school districts serving students with greater than 40% poverty, the cost of traveling to obtain driver instruction, testing and licensing is challenging.
SERRC's Drivers Training program is designed to give youth the skills necessary to successfully obtain a drivers license, safely navigate the road system and obtain employment that requires a driver license.
SERRC recently received partial funding from the Denali Training Fund Youth Initiative Grant to create a Drivers Training Program in rural Southeast Alaska. To date, First Bank, Wells Fargo, and Coeur have become sponsors of this program.
