All-Alaska Academy

Just for Parents

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Your son/daughter is going to participate in a busy, informative, exciting week-long All-Alaska Academy session. Your child will be well cared and chaperoned while in Juneau. If you have any questions about his/her safety, well-being or whereabouts, please feel free to email or call us and we will be happy to discuss your concerns. Your child will be participating and networking with other Alaskan students as they complete activities that are aligned with Alaska Content Standards.

Teacher and student participants stay at the Juneau International Hostel, 614 Harris St., (586-9559),  www.juneauhostel.net,  and a SERRC chaperone will stay there as well. Male teacher/chaperones and students stay on one floor, and females stay on the other floor. Students and teachers like the comfortable, “homey” atmosphere of this large home. Since it is a hostel, everyone participates in completing chores.

Please complete the Application and Permission Packet for your child, and return to your child's teacher so they can fax it.  It is available in the Teacher Resources section. If you have friends or relatives in Juneau, a special note from you will allow students to visit or drive somewhere with them.

Student expectations

Students are representing their family, school and district while attending this session. Here are the expectations of students:

  • I will respect proper decorum and dress while participating in the classes and activities.
  • I will be prepared and willing to participate in all activities.
  • I will cooperate with teachers, participants and staff in all academic, social and living situations.
  • I will not use cell phones or similar devices while participating in session activities.
  • I will not possess tobacco, alcohol, or illegal drugs.
  • I will not rent, borrow or ride in a private vehicle during the session without prior permission from my parent/guardian.
  • I will abide by the session schedule.

Tuition pays for all meals from Sunday evening through Friday lunch, but students often bring spending money for special snacks or optional evening activities. Students should dress in neat, clean school clothes, and they often bring a dressier outfit for special occasions. We walk a lot so comfortable shoes are helpful, along with coat and gloves. Consult the “Just for Students” page for further information about what students should bring and what they will be doing. Encourage your child to complete advance assignments, since that further prepares them for participation. If you have any questions, please email or call us.
