All-Alaska Academy

Government Internship

Here’s your chance to experience job shadowing with the Legislative, Executive, or Judicial branches of our state government. During your week-long session we will also complete some Alaska Close Up activities, explore higher education options, career exploration and learn job-seeking skills. Objectives and activities are aligned with Alaska Content Standards. Check the Sample Schedule, attached below, for additional details.

You are eligible to become a Government Intern if you are an Alaska Close Up alumni, 11th – 12th grader, are at least 16 years of age, and have the honesty, integrity, dependability and maturity to adjust to the adult atmosphere of the workplace.

Each session might be attended by up to three student groups:  7-8th grade Junior Alaska Close Up students, 9th – 12th grade Alaska Close Up students, and Government Interns.  Government Interns complete additional advance assignments, and may enroll for an optional UAS Government class. Use the "Just for Teachers" ."Just for Parents", and  “Just for Students" links to learn additional session details.

Districts pay tuition and travel to and from Juneau, and send one teacher/chaperone for every five students.  All the forms and assignments you need are available for download from this link.  Use the back arrow key in the upper left-hand corner to return to this website.
