All-Alaska Academy takes place in Juneau, sessions are one-week in length, and along with classes, job training, visits to the Capitol, students explore Juneau! Certain programs also offer one university credit. Check out the Student Resources section for more details.

Getting to Juneau:

Your school district (or you)  will make plane or ferry arrangements, and you will be picked up by a Holland America/Princess van. Plan to be arrive Sunday evening, because sessions begin early Monday morning and end at noon on Friday - followed by optional Friday afternoon activities.

Where you will stay:
All students and teachers stay at the Juneau International Hostel located at 614 Harris St., Juneau, AK 99801, telephone 907-586-9559. The hostel is a very nice, large house in downtown Juneau that accommodates over 40 guests in dormitories of six to ten beds each. Male teacher/chaperones and students stay on one floor, and females stay on the other floor. Students must follow hostel rules and complete chores each day. Along with teachers and chaperones, SERRC provides a chaperone every evening. www.juneauhostel.net.

About food:
All meals are provided from Sunday evening until Friday lunch. If you have special food needs,  let us know at least one week before your session. Sometimes the schedule says “Lunch (or dinner) on your own,” and in that case, you are given money to purchase your meal.  If you arrive before Sunday evening or stay after Friday lunch, meals are your responsibility. You should bring extra money for special snacks if you like.

How do you prepare?
Start by visiting the appropirate web page: Alaska Close Up, Junior Alaska Close Up, Government Internship, Career Connections. After you have read that information, link to the appropriate Student Resources section.  First, download your checklist. This list will tell you what to bring and the advance assignments you should complete.  Next, download the assignments and other information you need. Find a teacher or mentor to help you complete the assignments before you arrive at your session, and bring them to the session. This will prepare you for session participation.

If you have relatives or friends in Juneau that you would like to visit, please bring a note from your parents giving you permission to ride in their vehicle and to visit with them.  Your teacher/chaperone will help you decide the best time to visit.

What about university credit?
If you are an 11th - 12th grader, you may be eligible for one academic credit from the University of Alaska Southeast. If you choose to do this, the cost is $90 payable to UAS by check or credit card. You enroll the first day of the session. You can find the course requirements in the Student Resources section.
